Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning “universal life energy.” In some other cultures other than the Japanese Culture, it is similar to “chi” “qi” or “prana”, which can be seen as an expression of energy or life force.
Reiki is hands-on energy healing where the practitioner serves as an open channel for transmitting the “ki” to others. Reiki follows the system of Chakras, which are essentially wheels or disks of energy throughout the body, like portals that give access to the energy centers in the body. If one was to visualize these portals, they would looks like swirling energy centers at 7 locations along the spine of the body, from Sacrum to top of Head. Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles of nerves and major organs as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. The Reiki Practitioner working with their client would have the ability to work with that energy that is located at each Chakra and assist one in keeping balance along these Chakra energy locations. The purpose of the practitioner working with the individual is to assist in keeping balance with the body, mind and spirit and allowing energy to flow with ease in the body.
